All about Emily

1. She loves to put things in the garbage can. This includes (but is not limited to) her toys, the lid to mom's water bottle and wash clothes she squeezes out of the wash cloth drawer, despite being baby proofed. We have to be really careful with it now! I'm foreseeing an "under the sink" garbage can in the near future! I just hope we've caught all the non-garbage items she's tried to throw away!

2. She loves to squeeze herself into a small space between the area we store her toys, and her wooden table. It's just as wide as she is, and she backs herself into that spot and sits down and reads her books.

3. Puzzles! My goodness does she love her puzzles! She really is her great-grandmother's great-granddaughter :). And her aunt's neice. And her grandma's granddaughter. It must be in her blood. We have 2 wooden puzzles that have animal cut-outs, and she's pretty good at matching them up! We're not quite ready for jigsaw puzzles, but we're headed in the right direction!

Finally, one realization this mama has come to is that we need a new law. A law dictating that any children's toy that has pre-recorded music/sounds/words should come with at LEAST two volume settings, besides "off". You know, "low", "medium" and "high", for example. Or even just "low" and "high" would be fabulous. It's a shame that Emily's two favorite toys lately (that make noise) do not have this function. :(

In other exciting news, our community pool opens this weekend! I'm not sure if we'll go this weekend, as it will be a madhouse, but we definitely plan to hit the pool next week as it seems the weather will cooperate! We will be living at the pool this summer. There's a small kiddy-pool that's fenced off from the big pool, with a nice shaded area for a pregnant mama to rest. Sounds like my kind of summer!

One morning Emily INSISTED on putting on an outfit from her Grandma Susan, but wouldn't let me take off her pj's first! So here she is in all her fashionable glory :).

Panda makes an excellent chair.

Playing in her crib

I know, I know, I should have gotten rid of that mobile LOOONG ago. But she loves the elephant, so I leave it up.

After a Love/Hate relationship with Avocado in the beginning, Emily seems to enjoy guacamole. Here we're sharing chips and guac from Chipotle!

Baby #2

We finally took a belly shot! Here I am (last Friday) 25 weeks pregnant. Only 15 weeks (give or take) to go!

Emily's First Haircut!

A couple weeks ago I took Emily to a children's salon called Pigtails & Crewcuts. She had her first haircut! I was so worried she would lose the curls in the back, but thankfully they did a great job and her hair still curls up in back :).

At first, Emily was not happy to be there.

But then mom pulled out some grapes! Grapes solve everything! (Just wait until she learns about chocolate! hah)

All done! That wasn't to bad!

Two adorable videos from today

First - we were able to pick up a piano for Emily. It's a cute Fisher Price version of a grand piano, and Emily LOVES it. (Unfortunately, we forgot we had the piano set on the "quieter" setting, so the music isn't picked up by the video very well...but you still get the idea).

The other thing that happened today was Emily finally figured out how to use a straw! Once she had a taste of Costco's berry smoothie, she was determined to figure out how to get it up through the straw!

Saturday at Elioak Farm!

There's a local farm that's open to the public through the summer, so we thought it would be a good trip for Emily since we're working so hard on animal sounds :). There were lots of baby animals. We all had a tons of fun! There were lots of goats, sheep, donkeys, ponies, chickens, horses, bunnies, ducks and a turkey!

Feeding the little goats!

Checking out another pen of goats. "mama, why wont these ones walk up to me like the last ones?"

Oooo, that black sheep has lots of wool! This sheep was standing near Em at one point and baaaa'd really loud, and she freaked out! It was really funny.

Hangin' out with the goats and dad

Emily's first pony ride! She was a little scared at first, but once the pony started walking, she loved it!

The farm had an "Enchanted Forest" area where they created statues of a lot of common nursery rhymes! "Hey Diddle, Diddle...."

Humpty Dumpty!

There were many more, including Jack and Jill (went up the hill to fetch a pail of water). But Emily decided to join them in their fall down the hill. Emily didn't break her crown, but she sure wasn't happy! So no photos of that :(.

All in all, a wonderful family trip out! This could be a good place for a summer birthday party one day...maybe we'll have our baby boy's 2nd or 3rd birthday here!

A very belated Easter post!

I realized I never made a post about Easter! I was in NYC with my parents Easter weekend, and by the time I got back, Emily was asleep. So we celebrated our Easter the following Tuesday.

Emily checking out her Easter basket!

Playing with her basketball hoop the Easter Bunny got her!

Bag for Eggs

Snacking on Easter loot! (Cinnamon graham crackers)

Lastly, a video...it's long...but the cutest part is right at the beginning where Em is playing with her basketball hoop in her Easter dress. :)

We were lucky enough to have my parents visit the week before Easter. We hung out here in Maryland for 4 days, and then went up to NYC for the weekend! Chris was nice enough to watch Emily while I went on a little trip away with my parents. It was my first night away from Emily. :( But we still had a great time!

One day, we went down to Annapolis to walk around the waterfront and have lunch! Emily gives Grandpa kisses!

Waiting for our lunch

Hanging out with Mama

Another day, we went into Washington DC for a picnic lunch, and a walk around the tidal basin to see the cherry blossoms.
yum - grapes!

Upside down time with OhMa!

Pretty shot of the Washington Monument with cherry trees below!

Another day, we went up to Baltimore! I had the big ultrasound to find out baby #2's gender (WE'RE HAVING A BOY!!! A SWEET, ADORABLE, HANDSOME LITTLE BOY!!). After the ultrasound, we went to the Zoo to check out their Easter events.

At the hospital, the lady who checked us in said that all kids were supposed to wear a face mask while in the waiting room because there's been a resurgence of H1N1. The idea of Emily wearing one of those paper masks made me laugh - what 17 month old would keep that on their face? Here we are, struggling to get the mask on - it broke very quickly!

Emily LOVED the egg hunt!

And we said "Hi" to the Easter Bunny. While she wasn't thrilled to meet him, it went a million times better than the Santa picture at Christmastime! I don't think I ever posted that - I really should. It's hilarious. Everything about it.

She also loved the inflatable Eggs!

Emily's Curls

Sometimes, Emily's hair will curl up in the back - it's so very cute. My hair is naturally curly, so it makes me wonder if she's going to have hair like mine! Sometimes the curls are more defined than others, but on this day, she was rockin' the curls!

Recent photos

Here are a few recent photos of our sweet girl.

We've discovered that grapes are one of her new favorite food. This girl eats them like they're going out of style!

Reading books in a box....does it get much cuter than this?

One of her favorite hangout spots - in the lap of her panda

Playing outside in the beautiful weather!

So we were sitting out in front of the house playing with some toys (that I brought out in a bag) and all of a sudden Emily stands up, grabs the bag like it's her purse, and takes off down the road dragging the bag behind her! (It was a little large for her). She's getting adventurous as she gets older!

New Photos

Here's a few recent pictures of our sweet Emily!

Emily loves to stand in that big box (it's our box of papers to burn) and hand papers to Chris as he puts them into the fireplace.

We had some friends over! Emily feeds Rose some pineapple

Playing with Alex!

Spending the day with Ximenna

All ready to go outside!

Emily's new favorite perch - in the chair, playing with her music table right in front of the window so she can keep an eye on the neighborhood and all the passing dogs (she gets very excited and walks up to the window and bangs on it when a dog walks by).

One morning, I was getting Emily dressed, and she refused to cooperate. So I was going to let her have some diaper time, but she grabbed her socks and kept trying to put them on. So here, she rocks the socks and diaper look!
